What Can I Do to Help Protect our Coast?

Our best hope is to show our elected officials and the Mississippi Development Authority how strongly we oppose seismic studies, drilling, and oil and gas production in our barrier islands and inshore waters.  Every individual voice counts.  When democracy is working correctly, America responds to the will of the people.  Let's be certain that our elected officials and the MDA know exactly how we feel and how valuable our beautiful coast is - without rigs and platforms!

Here's a checklist for concerned citizens.

[ ] Become a member of the Gulf Islands Conservancy.

[ ] Plan to Attend the public rally at 3:00 on on August 21 at the Coast Coliseum.  See the 12 Miles South Coalition web site for details.

[ ] Learn about the issues.  We're assembling a library of background information on this web site.  Check the Documents page and the Links page.  Let us know if you find additional information that should be here.

[ ] Spread the word.  Tell your friends, family, and co-workers what the MDA plans to do to our coast.  Put a bumper sticker on your car and your boat.  Talk to people in line at the grocery store, the movies, ... Get stickers and postcards from the Mississippi Sierra Club or from one of these merchants.
